New Range Rover Sport reaches Heaven’s Gate on Goodyear tires
Not for the faint-hearted: Goodyear tires propelled a Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid over China’s Tianmen Mountain into its mystic clouds, tackling some 99 turns and 999 steps at a 45% gradient along the way. It took racing driver Ho-Pin Tung nerves of steel and pretty awesome tires to steer the first ever car over one of China’s most famous landmarks, reaching the so-called ‘Heaven’s Gate’ and completing this Dragon Challenge.
When Land Rover wants to push their vehicles to the limit, they knock on our door. Because they know our tires help them shatter boundaries, time and again. Only last year, Land Rover chose the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac as the official tire for the Land Rover Experience Tour, as they provide maximal grip on every possible surface. Similar scenario for this Dragon Challenge: only its reliable Goodyear tires could help the fast Range Rover prevail on this remarkably dangerous and bumpy surface.
After almost a month of exploring a wide variety of Peruvian roads, the Land Rover Experience Tour 2017 ended on November 9th. Goodyear’s Wrangler DuraTrac tires were used to equip the 19 participating vehicles. The tires proved their worth as the perfect off-road partner, withstanding even the harshest conditions, allowing participants to get the most out of their experience.
With large sand dunes, narrow mountain roads and rocky riverbeds, Peru presented the participants with a seemingly endless variety of driving conditions. As the official tire partner, Goodyear fitted the vehicles with a tire specifically designed to handle this variety: the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac.
Despite more than 3,500 kilometers in extreme conditions, and altitude changes from sea-level to 4,800 meters, none of the drivers experienced major inconveniences with any of their Wrangler DuraTrac tires
“The Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs have truly proven their worth as perfect off-road tires,” said Christian Uhrig, Head of Marketing Communications at Jaguar Land Rover Germany. “The tires excelled throughout the entire tour, even on the most challenging surfaces.”
“Throughout the Land Rover Experience Tour, Goodyear has consistently shown its off-road leadership. The Wrangler DuraTrac tires gave drivers the much-needed confidence to tackle even the toughest of terrains,” explained Nick Harley, Managing Director OE Consumer EMEA at Goodyear.
