Übele Transportlogistik avoids expensive roadside breakdowns with Goodyear TPMS

Übele Transportlogistik relies on Goodyear TPMS to stay on the road

Challenge

Übele Transportlogistik is in the construction business - notoriously a hard business for tyres. Their loads are heavy, and their delivery points require lots of traction. They were seeing 3 to 4 expensive roadside breakdowns per year - costing up to 1,500 euros in just service costs per breakdown. A cost that does not take into account downtime and any consequent damage to their vehicles - so the end cost is likely worse. Drivers had no way of spotting problems early, and were only able to identify issues after the breakdown had already happened. Expensive, annoying, and dangerous. Something had to be done.

Solution

Together with Goodyear, Übele Transportlogistik equipped all 12 tractor units and 18 semi-trailers in its fleet with Goodyear TPMS.

Results

Übele Transportlogistik reports that tyre-related damages have been reduced to almost zero. Despite demanding operations, the fleet can operate without carrying a spare tyre.

Three generations of Transportlogistik

Übele Transportlogistik is a third-generation family business. For decades, the company has been transporting activated carbon filters, silos and other goods for the construction industry on the roads of Germany, France, Norway and Finland. Not your typical loads. Their cargo takes them across highways and onto construction sites - often filled with coarse gravel, uneven terrain, and tight turns.

To keep fuel costs under control and traction high, they’ve relied on a combination of Goodyear tyres. To maximise tyre performance and detect issues before they become critical, Übele Transportlogistik also adopted Goodyear TPMS.

Before our collaboration, Übele Transportlogistik had around 4 roadside breakdowns per year. Übele Transportlogistik estimates that each roadside breakdown costs an average of €1,500 in service costs alone. Not counting the cost of downtime and consequent damages. In the business they’re in, damage to tyres can’t be prevented. But it can be detected before it leads to an unexpected breakdown. That's where Goodyear TPMS made the difference.

Goodyear TPMS

Goodyear TPMS is compact - when on the road, Übele Transportlogistik’s drivers don’t even notice that it’s there. They definitely notice the impact on their vehicles, though.

The same tyre pressure sensor is fitted to the rim of each wheel. So far, that doesn’t sound too unique, but Goodyear TPMS does a lot more than notifying the driver the moment pressure suddenly drops or temperatures suddenly increase. Goodyear TPMS uses powerful algorithms to turn raw data into user-friendly alerts and reports, sent to both the driver and fleet manager. But the real value of TPMS lies in its predictive capabilities. Smart algorithms enable early detection of abnormalities and provide early warning of potential tyre issues, making you aware of growing tyre problems before they have a chance to become… well, even bigger problems.

Goodyear TPMS helps reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns by providing early warnings of tyre-related issues, and you’ll be able to give it the care (or replacement) it needs, and send your truck out onto the road without worries.

What if your vehicles already come with TPMS installed from the factory/OEM?

Then you are even closer to the Goodyear Fleet Mobility ecosystem than you think. With Goodyear TPMS Connect1, eligible fleets can connect compatible OEM-installed TPMS hardware2 and benefit from advanced tyre monitoring, predictive alerts and fleet management services. With only a few activation steps3, existing tyre data can become part of a connected ecosystem that helps improve visibility and support proactive maintenance decisions.

Safer drivers, fewer breakdowns

Thanks to Goodyear TPMS, owner Frank Übele, as well as his son Tim and daughter Ann-Kathrin, receive push notifications on FleetHub, be it on the web or via the app. They know exactly what is going on with their vehicles and can intervene and coordinate maintenance before serious damage, downtime, or unnecessary costs occur.

The results? According to Übele Transportlogistik the fleet has no tyre-related roadside breakdowns since TPMS installation. Not quite a magic trick, but as close as you can get!

“With Goodyear TPMS and the connected FleetHub platform, everything works seamlessly together and makes daily business operations much easier. Real-time tyre pressure and temperature monitoring, predictive alerts, and push notifications help us react before a bigger issue or breakdown occurs.”

— Frank Übele, owner at Übele Transportlogistik

  1. Goodyear TPMS Connect is currently only available for trailers.
  2. In case of missing hardware compatibility, additional and/or other hardware components can be evaluated to be able to benefit from Goodyear TPMS Connect.
  3. Activation is dependent on hardware compatibility and data enablement by the OEM. A prior compatibility check by Goodyear and OEM is required.
