53% breakdown reduction with Tyres-as-a-Service

●      Challenge: Experiencing a high number of breakdowns and significant downtime due to frequent tyre repairs, alongside high fuel consumption.

●      Solution: Using Goodyear Tyres-as-a-Service (TaaS) premium tyres, remote monitoring and proactive maintenance to maintain optimal tyre pressure.

●      Result: 53% reduction in breakdowns, 2% reduction in fuel consumption, and an overall reduction in CO2 emissions.*

Groupe Chatel is a long-distance transport and logistics company based in north-west France that has been serving its customers for over a century. Managing a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles, a high number of tyre-related breakdowns was not sustainable. Finding a comprehensive solution to lower their total cost of ownership was vital.

Goodyear’s all-inclusive tyre management subscription service, TaaS, was the answer for Groupe Chatel.

"The Goodyear TaaS solution is above all a tyre connectivity system that enables the various technical data of the tyres, namely temperature and pressure above all, to be transmitted and monitored," explains Vincent Marie, Purchasing Director for Groupe Chatel.

For Vincent and his team, the TaaS solution doesn’t just provide premium tyres and sensors; it actively maintains optimal tyre pressure for them: “A system of independent compressors on each wheel enables tyre pressure to be maintained, ensuring an optimal pressure across the entire fleet."

The results have been clear, measurable, and immediate: "The benefits of TaaS after several months of use are a 53% reduction in breakdowns," explains Vincent.

Reduced downtime hasn’t been the only benefit for Groupe Chatel after adopting the tyre subscription model. They have also reported a 2% reduction in fuel consumption.*

"The maintenance of pressure reduces fuel consumption," says Vincent. "And above all, it's also a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. Since implementing TaaS, we're obviously reducing CO2 emissions thanks to enhanced tyre performance".

The relationship between Goodyear and Groupe Chatel has delivered impactful results for Vincent and his team: "We are pretty satisfied with the results of TaaS," he said. "I clearly recommend the use of TaaS. Outsourcing is never easy, but the success of a project depends above all on choosing the right teams. Goodyear knew how to respond."

Goodyear is delighted that Groupe Chatel has become one of the first customers in France to implement our TaaS offering. After just one year, it is reaping the first benefits. “This project illustrates the Group's ability to innovate and support fleets in their need to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs," added Stefano Sgambati, Head of Fleet Mobility Sales, Europe South.
