Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 wins its first accolade in a major tire test

February 17th, 2011 – Just one week after the launch of the latest innovative Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, Goodyear is celebrating the first major success for the tire in a major magazine test.
The well-respected German magazine, Auto Zeitung, tested a range of ultra-high performance tires and declared the latest Goodyear as ‘Very Recommendable’. The magazine testers commented that the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was ‘strong in braking and safe at anytime’.

The impressive Goodyear showed the benefits of its unique, revolutionary ActiveBraking Technology, with 1st place in the stopping distance test – stopping in 33.6m from 100km/h in the dry braking test. *1 This was a full 3.5 metres less than the worst of the competitor tires tested. This equates to the length of a typical city car. A car fitted with the worst performing tire in this test would still be traveling at 30km/h at the point that the Goodyear-equipped car had stopped.
Xavier Fraipont, Marketing Manager for Goodyear stated: “The ActiveBraking Technology in the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 increases road contact during braking, thereby delivering significantly shorter braking distances on both dry and wet roads – proof of Goodyear’s continued commitment and efforts to improving road safety. While conventional tire blocks show little or no transformation during braking, the blocks in the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 due to their specially designed shape, develop more surface under braking load and therefore increase the tire-to-surface contact area. The larger contact patch offers increased grip, which in turn leads to shorter stopping distances. We are delighted that Auto Zeitung proved the benefits of this technology with the top score in this braking test, which supports similar findings from a separate test carried out by TUeV which proved that Innovative ActiveBraking Technology delivers up to 3 meters shorter stopping distance’’. *2
The Auto Zeitung accolade for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is the first for the new tire, but adds to the impressive list of test wins scored by its predecessor, which received the highest recommendation in various independent tests by experts and magazines across Europe immediately after its launch, including the Finnish Tuulilasi magazine, UK magazines Evo and Autocar and the German Powercar and Auto Zeitung magazines.
