WHAT IS
WTCR?
The World Touring Car Cup is one of the most diverse racing series in motorsport. Featuring a mixture of permanent race tracks and high-pressure street circuits stretching from South Korea to Spain, this epic global series combines high-octane touring car racing with a backdrop of exotic locations and challenging weather conditions.
World Touring Car Cup Races are characterised by their door-to-door action, fast-paced sprints and eclectic mix of top-level drivers. And by using cars based on typical family cars, touring car racing is one of the most relatable forms of motorsport.
Since 2020, Goodyear has been the exclusive tyre supplier and official series partner of WTCR, providing tyres to every car in the championship.

FORMAT
In 2021, WTCR will visit eight different locations in Europe and Asia. These include the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife, which poses a daunting 25 km challenge to drivers, as well as flawless top-level circuits such as the Hungaroring and MotorLand Aragón.
WTCR drivers face even more challenges when they visit Portugal’s Vila Real and the Guia Circuit in Macau, where they tackle tight, twisty tracks through ancient city streets. With barriers on either side and no run-off area, one mistake could ruin your race.
Most weekends feature two practice sessions, a single three-stage qualifying session with two elimination periods, and two races. All rounds have extensive global broadcasting on leading networks in almost every region. A unique qualifying system ensures exciting races, implementing reverse results and qualifying points to keep battles interesting and rivalries alive.

FAMILY CARS
WTCR cars are all based on typical family cars, such as the Alfa Romeo Giuletta, Audi RS3, CUPRA León, Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai i30 N, Lynk & Co 03 and Renault Mégane.
These four or five door vehicles all share the bodyshell and suspension layout of the production model and are all powered by a 360bhp, 2.0 litre turbocharged engine.
These strict TCR specifications guarantee highly-competitive, closely-fought races and unmissable motorsport.

To make sure each race produces on-track action as exciting as the last, Goodyear provides a single slick and a single wet compound to every team in WTCR. With only one type of tyre available for dry running at every track, it’s vital to have a tyre that performs in all conditions.
Crucially, this allows drivers to push their cars even closer to the limit to get that all-important extra one-thousandth of a second out of their lap time.
In wet weather conditions, a single treaded compound is used to provide extra grip on a rain-soaked track. An intriguing rule in the WTCR regulations allows teams to use slick and wet tyres on the car at the same time, allowing for clever strategies and setups for certain weather conditions.
