Future EU tyre label

eu-tire-label-example.jpg

The standardized tyre label that will be introduced by the European Union in 2012 will inform you on 3 key tyre performance attributes: fuel efficiency, wet grip performance and exterior rolling noise.

On the left you will find an example of what the label will look like (label example according to EU publication NO1222-2009, format according to Annex II article 1 and 2 of the regulation*). The label design for fuel efficiency and wet grip is similar to existing energy efficiency labels (e.g. household appliances) with A being the highest performing tyre in its category and G the currently least performing. The exterior noise is expressed in a value in decibels, accompanied by one, two or three sound waves with one wave being the most quiet tire and three waves the noisiest one. All tyres will carry the same label so you can easily compare tires and see which one is the right one for you. Please click the icons below to learn more about each of the 3 attributes.

We at Goodyear welcome this new labeling system since we are convinced it will guide you towards safer and more fuel efficient tyres. As we always take great care in developing tyres that meet the highest safety and environmental standards, we are confident you will make the right choice.

* The results shown in the examples of the "EU Tyre Label" section of our website, and generally in any other contemporary references to the new EU tire label, can only be indicative. These examples are given for general informational and educational purposes only. The official test methods allowing the precise grading of tires on the new EU Tyre Label have not yet been adopted and approved by the European Union.

Fuel efficiency explained

A rolling tyre deforms and dissipates energy. It is one of the 5 resistive forces acting on a vehicle.

Wet grip explained

The wet grip label provides you with information on an important safety aspect of a tyre: its grip on wet roads.

Exterior noise explained
