Other performance ratings to consider

The EU tyre label will help you evaluate a tyre in terms of noise, wet grip and fuel efficiency. But there are other criteria you should consider when choosing tyres.

Additional performance factors

Goodyear Dunlop tests each new tyre design against more than 50 performance criteria. Some important factors to consider include:

  • Wet handling
  • Dry handling
  • Dry braking
  • Cornering grip
  • Durability
  • Internal noise
  • Aquaplaning

Winter tyres have specific performance factors that are not rated by the EU tyre label, such as ice traction, snow traction and cold weather grip.

Getting independent advice

So how can you find trustworthy advice on those performance factors that the EU label doesn’t cover?

  1. Check the test results of automotive clubs and magazines
Europe’s top automotive organizations and publications conduct independent tyre tests each year. Such tests analyze an average of 15 key performance criteria, including most of those outlined above.
  2. Identify the original equipment tyres for your vehicle
Vehicle manufacturers require high standards across a wide range of performance factors before approving tyres for their vehicles.
  3. Talk to a trusted tyre dealer
A tyre dealer is best positioned to recommend the ideal tyre for your specific needs. Be sure to describe your driving behavior, vehicle and seasonal requirements.
