Goodyear is pleased and proud to announce that the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 has ranked in first place in the recent Auto Express Big Tire Test 2011.
The leading UK automotive magazine tested ten leading tire brands at Bridgestone’s test facility in Aprilia, south of Rome. Each tire manufacturer sent ten tires for test, eight to be used for track testing and two for rolling resistance. The magazine also bought two sets at random and compared them to the supplied rubber on the wet braking strip; proving that they were testing exactly what you can buy.
Focusing on the approaching tire label, Auto Express wanted to look at more than simply rolling resistance/fuel efficiency, noise and wet grip as per the forthcoming label. They tested nine disciplines in total including wet and dry braking, handling and cornering, straight and curved aquaplaning, rolling resistance and noise.
Auto Express looked for the best overall tire and Goodyear ranked highly in the majority of areas. They contended the nine competitors particularly in the wet and the dry weather conditions.
The tire, which is designed to answer the most pressing needs of consumers of Ultra High Performance tires with its ActiveBraking Technology, gave ‘wet road confidence backed up by podiums for braking and cornering’.
What impressed Auto Express the most was Goodyear’s ability in the dry weather conditions commenting that ‘Yet while we expect Goodyear to do well in the wet, its ability in the dry was a surprise. It turns in sharply and hangs on well’. The overall verdict was that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was an ‘Impressive all-rounder that is an excellent choice for any conditions’.
Michelle Fisher, Goodyear Brand Manager UK said: “We are thrilled to receive the Auto Express ‘Best Buy 2011’ award, ranking in first place. We launched the new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 earlier in the year and focused the tire on increasing road contact during braking, delivering significantly shorter braking distances on both dry and wet roads. This really came out in the test, particularly in the dry weather performance criteria. This is yet another win for Goodyear’s portfolio this year after winning original equipment fitment on the exclusive high performance Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door coupe with the new tire.”
